How do I replace a nozzle on my FlashForge Creator 5 Pro?

The Creator 5 Pro has four independent toolheads, each with its own removable hardened-steel nozzle rated to 320°C. You don't unscrew a bare nozzle from a heater block. Instead, you swap a complete nozzle assembly (the hotend unit) on the toolhead that needs it.

Before you start

Get the right part

The Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro use the same part: the Nozzle Assembly for Creator 5 Series. It comes in four sizes:

Size Good for
0.25 mm Fine detail and higher precision
0.4 mm Everyday printing (factory standard)
0.6 mm Faster prints with more flow
0.8 mm Large parts where speed matters more than detail

If you're only fixing one worn or damaged nozzle, you need one assembly. If you're changing nozzle size for every colour, you need four. You can mix sizes, but each toolhead's size has to match what you set in your slicer.

Check the official manual

FlashForge publishes the Creator 5 Pro user manual and quick guide on its Creator 5 Pro download page. Keep it open while you work and follow FlashForge's steps wherever they differ from this article.

Replacing the nozzle assembly

  1. Finish or cancel any print and let the printer go idle.
  2. Unload the filament from the toolhead you're working on. TODO: Confirm the manual says to unload first, and give the menu path.
  3. Let the nozzle cool completely. The hotends can run up to 320°C, so don't touch the toolhead until it has cooled. TODO: Confirm whether FlashForge says to power the printer off or leave it on during the swap.
  4. Take out the two screws that hold the nozzle assembly to the toolhead. Owners describe it as just two screws: pull the old assembly out, then slide the new one in. TODO: Describe where the screws are on the toolhead and whether the silicone sock or any cable has to come off first.
  5. Pull out the old nozzle assembly and set it aside.
  6. Slide the new assembly in until it is fully seated, then put the two screws back in. Make sure the assembly sits square and doesn't move. TODO: Add a torque note or a "snug, don't overtighten" warning if the manual gives one.
  7. Repeat for each toolhead you're changing.

To watch the whole job first, see this owner's video: How to Change Nozzles on the FlashForge Creator 5 (& Pro). It shows all four nozzles being changed from 0.4 mm to 0.25 mm.

After the swap: recalibrate

Don't skip this step. The Creator 5 Pro changes toolheads all through a multicolour print, so it needs to know exactly where each nozzle is. A new nozzle assembly won't sit in exactly the same spot as the old one.

  1. Run the printer's calibration again so it can measure each nozzle's position and keep all four lined up between colour changes. TODO: Add the calibration menu path from the Creator 5 Pro manual.
  2. Update your slicer profile if you changed nozzle size. Set the right nozzle diameter for each toolhead so line widths and flow are correct.
  3. Run a small test print and watch the first few tool changes. Check that the replaced toolhead picks up and parks cleanly, and that the new nozzle isn't dragging across the bed or the print.

Troubleshooting

  • The nozzle you replaced was bent. Work out why before you go back to long prints. If a toolhead isn't lining up properly when it docks or parks, a new nozzle can end up bent the same way. Watch the docking closely on your test print.
  • Colours are misaligned after the swap. Run the calibration again. Misalignment between toolheads usually means the printer is still using the old nozzle positions.
  • Under- or over-extrusion after a size change. Check that the nozzle diameter in your slicer matches the assembly you put on that toolhead.

An owner's tip: with four toolheads, you have four nozzles that can clog, wear or get damaged. Keeping a spare 0.4 mm assembly on hand means one bad nozzle won't stop your printer for long.
